The devastating toll from the US-Israel military campaign against Iran keeps climbing, and the numbers are staggering.

As of May 5, 2026, over 6,000 people lie dead across the Middle East. Iran alone has suffered 3,468 deaths, with more than 26,500 injured. Lebanon’s casualty count is equally catastrophic: 2,702 dead and 8,311 wounded. Even the Gulf states face mounting losses, with 28 confirmed killed.

The violence erupted on February 28 when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear, military, and civilian sites. Iran retaliated with a devastating barrage of ballistic missiles and drone attacks across the region.

The Deadly Toll by Country

Israel has recorded 26 deaths and 7,791 injured from Iranian counterattacks. The southern cities of Dimona and Arad took the heaviest blow on March 21, with 180 wounded in a single Iranian missile barrage targeting Israel’s main nuclear facility at Dimona.

The United States confirmed 13 combat-related deaths across the region, plus one service member from a health-related incident in Kuwait. A US refuelling aircraft crashed in western Iraq on March 13, killing all six crew members.

Bahrain’s capital, Manama, was struck on March 10, killing a 29-year-old woman and injuring eight others. Three confirmed dead in Bahrain overall. Kuwait lost seven people, including a girl killed by shrapnel and two Fire Force officers. Iraq’s death toll reached 118, mostly fighters from the Popular Mobilisation Forces paramilitary group aligned with Iran. Jordan reported 29 injured with no deaths.

Escalation in the Gulf

Tensions remain razor-sharp in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump warned Iran would be “blown off the face of the earth” if US Navy ships are targeted. Trump announced “Project Freedom,” a controversial US operation to guide ships through the strait.

Iran fired back, threatening to attack any vessel attempting passage without permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In Lebanon, Israel established a “Yellow Line” marking its occupation zone from the border to the Litani River following a ceasefire announcement. Yet Israeli forces continue launching fresh airstrikes while forcibly displacing civilians from two additional towns. Hezbollah has reported launching counter-attacks against Israeli positions.

The humanitarian crisis deepens by the day. More than one million Lebanese have been displaced since the conflict began. An especially brutal April 8 saw over 300 killed and 1,150 wounded in a single day across Lebanon alone.

With no diplomatic breakthrough in sight and military operations ongoing, experts warn the region faces prolonged instability and mounting civilian casualties.
