Giuliani hospitalized in critical condition

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who became a fixture in Donald Trump’s political orbit, landed in the hospital this weekend in critical but stable condition, according to his spokesman Ted Goodman.

Giuliani, turning 82 this month, was injured in a car accident last September when a Ford Bronco was struck from behind in New Hampshire. He sustained a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, plus injuries to his left arm and lower leg. Those injuries apparently progressed to the point where hospitalization became necessary.

Trump wasted no time commenting on the situation via social media, predictably gushing about Giuliani as “America’s Mayor” and a “True Warrior,” while taking the opportunity to complain that Giuliani was “treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics.” Trump also seized the moment to praise Giuliani’s efforts contesting the 2020 election results, even as those efforts have cost Giuliani dearly.

Giuliani rose to prominence by steering New York City through the September 11 attacks, earning the “America’s Mayor” moniker in the process. His post-mayoral career has been considerably rockier. Following the 2020 election, he traveled the country alongside Trump’s other advisers making baseless fraud accusations against Joe Biden and the electoral system. That legal aggression backfired spectacularly when a jury ordered him to pay two election workers he had defamed a combined 148 million dollars for their trouble.

Goodman’s statement emphasized that Giuliani remains a fighter confronting his latest challenge “with unwavering strength,” while calling for prayers on behalf of “America’s Mayor.” Beyond confirming the hospitalization and basic condition, Goodman offered no additional medical details or timeline for recovery.
