Are Border Patrol Agents Out Of Control?

A slew of reports about Border Patrol agents behaving badly have surfaced recently, prompting many to question whether they are out of control.

According to the Huffington Post, one case of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents behaving badly involved two agents in Del Mar, California who were arrested following a Cirque du Soleil show. Apparently, the two agents beat a woman who asked them to stop having oral sex during the show.

Meanwhile, in Texas a Border Patrol Agent was border agent was arrested while trying to smuggle weapons into Mexico and in Imperial Beach, California, an agent was arrested for choking an illegal immigrant.

The absolute worst case of U.S. Border Protection Agents behaving badly comes out of Brownsville, Texas where a 29-year-old border agent named Jason Gamboa was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl.

These stories are heinous, but the sad news is, they aren’t all that uncommon. Abuse of power happens every single day and has been an ongoing problem since… forever.

This realization is in no way an excuse for these horrible acts, but instead sheds light on a huge problem, which makes us wonder what in the world is going to be done about it?

Most likely, nothing will be done and nothing will change. Sure, some folks may go to jail, but the cycle will continue. That’s the sad, honest truth.
