‘Game Of Thrones’ Episode Recap: A Man Without Honor
May 14, 2012
The night may be dark and full of terrors, but in Game of Thrones, the day is also dark and full of terrors.
In this episode, Arya finds herself walking a very fine line with Tywin Lannister, who begins to suspect she’s lying about her past. Tywin has every reason to be concerned after his bodyguard, Ser Amory was killed right at his doorstep. Little does he know that his cupbearer is smart and connected. Arya now only has one kill wish left and Jaqen has proven he is a very skilled murderer.
Daenerys Targaryen is still searching for her dragons and meets with the Thirteen lords of Qarth, the city that offered her refuge from the Red Waste. It turns out her missing dragons aren’t missing at all. They have been captured by Pyat Pree who collaborated with Xaro Xhoan Daxos and are being held in the House of the Undying. Pyat kills the 11 other lords after revealing their plans to open up the gates of Qarth to the world.
Over in King’s Landing, Sansa Stark awakes after a nightmare only to find she has begun her period. She panics and tries to cut the blood out of the sheets and mattress when Tyrion’s girlfriend Shae comes in and suggests they flip the mattress over in order to conceal the blood. Just then, another maiden catches them trying to conceal the blood and rushes out of the room. Shae chases after her and warns her not to tell Cersei about the blood. When Shae returns to Sansa’s room she finds Sandor Clegane standing next to the bloody bed. Sansa is then sent to Cersei to discuss her transformation into womanhood. When Cersei asks Sansa if she loves Joffrey, Sansa lies and says she does love him. It looks like Sansa has taken Shae’s advice to trust no-one and never tell another soul about how much she hates Joffrey.
Later, Cersei and Tyrion share an intimate moment after Cersei reveals she has in fact been carrying on a relationship with her twin brother Jaime. For a quick moment, Tyrion looks as though he may console his sister as she cries, but he quickly changes his mind.
In Winterfell, Theon Greyjoy awakes to find Osha gone and one of his guards killed. Humiliated, Theon demands his men search for Osha, Bran, Rickon, and the Giant. The men and their hounds catch the scent of the youngest Stark boys and their caretakers at a nearby farm. Theon’s men find nut shells, which indicated that they were in the right place, but they can’t seem to locate the foursome and their two dire wolves. That doesn’t stop Theon’s men from taking matters into their own hands. Two charred bodies are roped up and although they are the same size as Bran and Rickon, the bodies are likely those of two young orphan boys.
Beyond the wall, Jon Snow continues his seemingly aimless walk with his captive Ygritte, who pushes him for information and learns that he is the son of Ned Stark and has taken an oath as a member of the Night’s Watch to never be with a woman. Ygritte uses this information to distract Jon and escape. When Jon runs after her, he finds that she has essentially led him right to her own people. Jon is surrounded by wildlings.
