‘Eastbound & Down’ Ends With A Bang

The series finale of the HBO hit series Eastbound & Down, starring Danny McBride as Kenny Powers, ended last night with a bang. Literally.

For those of you who haven’t seen the episode yet, you may want to stop reading now, because we’re about to blow your mind with spoilers.

First, I have to say that I did not know the series was ending. Sure, these shows come and go, but this was only the third season. Yes, I know that sounds greedy to complain about only having three seasons of a show, but this was a really funny show. It makes me sad to think that new episodes of Eastbound will never air on HBO.

Then again, this third season was not nearly as good as the first two seasons. But, on the plus side, fans learned a lot about Kenny this season and we all got to see him come to terms with becoming a father for the first time. Season 3 began with Kenny not wanting anything to do with his son and ended with Kenny wanting nothing more than to be a father and a family man. Sounds strange right?

The strangest part of the final episode was the incredibly shocking ending. Kenny walked off the field in Texas during a baseball game and decided to go home to April and his son, Toby. While speeding home in his moms minivan, Kenny lost control of the car and it flew off a cliff, flipped over, and exploded. At first, I thought Kenny was just dreaming the whole thing, but then you see everyone mourning his death. His brother, his father and mother, April and even the incredibly annoying Stevie, were all seen crying after hearing the news.

Kenny Powers is dead.

Just when Kenny’s death starts to sink in, he shows up at April’s door with blond hair and his friend Shane’s truck and tells her and wants to be a family man. April asked the obvious question: why did you have to fake your own death? Kenny being Kenny simply said that was the only way the reporters would leave them alone. He had to die in order to start over and be the man she needed him to be and the father Toby deserved.

Oh Kenny, you never disappoint.
