Season 2 Of ‘Game Of Thrones’: Meet The Cast!

August 11, 2011

New cast members have been added to Season 2 of Game of Thrones, which is based on the book called A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin.

Craster (Robert Pugh):

Craster lives beyond the Wall in a place called Craster’s Keep. He is an ally of The Night’s Watch, although the alliance is a bit unstable. He has 19 wives and is said to be very cruel.

Gilly (Hannah Murray):

Gilly is one of Craster’s daughters and she lives with him beyond the Wall at Craster’s Keep. She is pregnant with her father’s child and begs Jon Snow for help.

Hallyne The Pyromancer (Roy Dotrice):

Lord Hallyne is the head of the Alchemists’ Guild in King’s Landing and he oversees the city’s supply of wildfire.

Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha):

Jaqen is an assassin who also uses magic.

Jaqen is essentially a criminal who is held in the dungeons at King’s Landing.

Jaqen is hand picked to join the Night’s Watch and (in the book) helps Arya Stark get back home to Winterfell.

Yara/Asha Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan):

Yara is the only surviving sibling of Theon Greyjoy, the son of Lord Balon Greyjoy. Theon is by Robb Starks side as he deals with the death of his father and declares war with the Lannisters.

Yara is a warrior like her brother, which doesn’t go over well with those who don’t think women should fight.

Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane):

Stannis is the younger brother of King Robert Baratheon, who died in season one after getting attacked by a boar.

Stannis holds the title of Lord of Dragonstone and returns to King’s Landing when he learns that his brother’s son Joffrey may not be his son after all.

Once in King’s Landing, Stannis declares himself the rightful king of the Iron Throne. This declaration begins the “clash” of the Kings.

Melisandre of Asshai (Carice van Houten):

Melisandre is a priestess of R’hllor, the red god, and is Stannis’ personal advisor. She believes that Stannis holds great power and helps him obtain control of the Iron Throne.

Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie):

Brienne is the Maid of Tarth and is the only child of Lord Selwyn Tarth of Evanfall Hall. Her fealty lies with the House Baratheon.

Brienne is a skilled fighter and was trained by her father’s men for many years. She wants to be knighted.

Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer):

Margaery is the daughter of Lord Mace Tyrell, the ruler of the Reach, one of the Seven Kingdoms.

She is unwed at the beginning of the book, but is later married off to Renly Baratheon.

Margaery travels with Renly to King’s Landing where she meets Sansa Stark, who tells her about Joffrey’s true nature.

Salladhor Saan (Lucian Msamati):

Salladhor is a pirate from Lysene, who pledges his allegance to Stannis Baratheon and helps him gain control of the throne.

Filming for Season 2 began in July and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast is currently filming in Belfast.

Most likely, Season 2 will not air until January of 2012, but it will be worth the wait. It looks like this next season is going to be even better than the first.
