HBO may need to re-tool its True Blood script because fans are starting to lose interest with the overcomplicated storyline.
The problem with HBO is they’ve drifted away from the brilliant story that was already created by Charlaine Harris in her best selling Sookie Stackhouse book series. HBO really didn’t have to do much in order to make this series great, because the groundwork was already laid out for them by Charlaine.
Unfortunately, HBO decided not to follow the book series and have added too many new characters, thereby taking the story in a brand new direction. Plus, producers have also decided not to kill off characters that were killed in the books.
These changes greatly impact character development and actually dilute the shows overall impact on its audience.
As a fan of the book series and the show, I can say that the first few Sookie Stackhouse books were much better than True Blood. HBO is simply trying to do cram too many stories into one TV series. Instead of focusing on the core characters, HBO has added a bunch of new characters. These new characters have added too many side stories that are simply not interesting or important in the development of the storyline.
For example, Sam Merlotte’s brother was not in the book, and neither were his parents. Plus, Hoyt’s mom was not a major character in the book. She simply faded in and out and barely sparked any interest. In the book, Tara Thornton wasn’t gay or messed up. In fact, she was quite successful and ran her own business. She was Sookie’s level headed friend; not the messed up emotional wreck of a person HBO has created. In the book, Sookie’s brother Jason is a strange looking were-panther. It’s still unclear whether or not HBO is actually going to change Jason.
The list can go on, and on, and on.
As you may already know, HBO also has another hit series on their hand that’s also based on a book series. This show is called Game of Thrones and this story was created by George R.R. Martin. This new series is incredibly popular and may end up being more popular than True Blood. Here’s why:
HBO can fix the problems that are running rampant this season on True Blood, but they will need to act fast, because some of us may not tune in on Sunday – or any Sunday after that.
