The hit series Game of Thrones may not cover the entire book series, which currently stands at five books, with more on the way.
According to WNCF TV, HBO does not know how long the show will last and can’t guarantee that the television series will cover the complete story as told in the book series by George R.R. Martin.
”I don’t know where the show will end, as opposed to the books,” HBO programing chief Michael Lombardo told TV reporters.
“It would be fantastic to be able to say this show will go on for 10 years, and do every aspect of the books. I don’t know that will be the case,” he added. “We’ll see, but we are doing this without any predetermined idea of the number of seasons.”
Another reason for this uncertainty comes down to the writers and producers of the series, because if they don’t want to remain involved, then the show will not go on.
On the plus side, Game of Thrones was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards, so one might think HBO would want to keep this show around for more than just two seasons.
In other news, George R.R. Martin shared some spoilers alerts, which is always nice if you haven’t had time to read the series, with the Huffington Post. Here’s what George had to say about killing off a particular character in what he calls the “Red Wedding” (this should be a hint to everyone who loves this show):
“I wrote the other wedding where someone else dies and that one was easy and fun to write, because you know, everyone wanted to see that little shit die,” he says. “Even at the moment that particular little shit does die, I tried to write it so that you would feel empathy for him in that moment of dying and bring home too that this is a human being who is scared, and terrified, and then dead.”
“It’s a little like killing a part of yourself or smothering one of your children, but sometimes it has to be done for the almighty god of the story,” he says. “The story always comes first.”
George was also asked how he was able to get HBO to stay true to the book series, which is apparently very hard to do because he has no veto power.
“You have to find people that you trust and put your trust in them and their understanding of the story.”
George ended up trusting David Beinoff and Dan Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones, and states, “They seem committed to telling my story in a different medium.”
As you may already know, season two of Game of Thrones is currently in production somewhere in Ireland and two new set photos have been released, reports The Daily Blam.
The scene in question features the statues of the seven Gods of Westeros and will include brand new characters Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Stannis (Stephen Dillane), and Davos (Liam Cunningham). In the scene Melisandre, a prophet who worships the different faith, R’hllor, (the god of light), convinces Stannis to burn the statues from his home of Dragonstone. Melisandre then pulls something very interesting from the flames (stay tuned to find out when the series returns next year or read the second novel). The religious statues represent the Father, the Mother, the Warrior, the Maiden, the Smith, the Crone, and the Stranger (Death).
